BIOTECHNOLOGY

CRS 213 GRADES 10-12 CR 1 S

Biotechnology I is a course for students who are interested in life sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, and the health sciences. Students studying biotechnology go on to careers in research, pharmaceuticals, genetics, forensic science, and affiliated life sciences. This course provides skills that will help you advance in the rapidly expanding biotechnology industry. Experience working in a state of the art biotechnology lab while gaining an appreciation of how biotechnology affects virtually every aspect of our modern world. You will study techniques in cell culture, DNA manipulation, protein production, purification, drug discovery, microbiology, bioinformatics, and much more. If you enjoy the sciences in a hands-on laboratory environment then this course is for you! Prerequisite: C or better in Introduction to Biology, Biology, or Honors Biology

BIOTECHNOLOGY II

CRS 205 GRADES 10-12 CR 1 S

Biotechnology II builds on the skills and techniques learned in Biotechnology I. The primary focus of this course is on microbiology concepts and techniques. You will learn about aseptic technique, growing cultures, preparing media, the microbial genome, microbial diagnosis, and virology. This course has a strong emphasis on hands-on laboratory experiences and you will become proficient in many aspects of microbiology. Prerequisite: C or better in Biotechnology I

BIOTECHNOLOGY III

CRS 219 GRADES 11-12 CR 1 S

This is the third course in the biotechnology program and its focus is on advanced biotechnology concepts and techniques. You will further your skills in production processes such as protein production and separation techniques as well as incorporating techniques from Biotechnology II. Prerequisite: C or better in Biotechnology II
