COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

 

ACCOUNTING 1
Course # 705 GRADES 10-12 CR 1 S
Accounting is the language of business. This introductory course will introduce students to the fundamental concepts of debit and credit, which are used to keep financial records and prepare financial statements. Many jobs require an understanding of accounting. This hands-on course will help you to succeed in a wide variety of careers. It provides an excellent preparation for those students planning on a business major in college or entering the work force.

 

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT/ENTREPRENEURSHIP

CRS 712 GRADES 11-12 CR 1 S

Business Management/Entrepreneurship will introduce students to the principles and techniques underlying the successful organization and management of business organizations. Students will use the "Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management" textbook and learn theoretical concepts such as supply and demand, free enterprise systems, business financing, market structure and the role of the entrepreneur in free enterprise. Students will analyze the basic management activities and apply their knowledge to complete a business plan for a company of their creation/design. The students will then take part in the creation of this company and produce and market its own product. The students will sell stock for their company; perform decision-making, record-keeping, and marketing tasks with the goal of making a profit for their stockholders. Recommendation: Prior completion of Business Principles or Accounting 1

 

BUSINESS PRINCIPLES

CRS 704 GRADES 9-12 CR 1 Q

Business Principles is designed to teach you business skills that can be used in your daily life and in preparation for further business studies. Topics included in the course are: economic foundations, business and government in our global economy, business careers, introduction to financial concepts, consumers in our economy, risk management, small business ownership, and principles of marketing. Individual group assignments will emphasize practical applications of the above topics. Current business practices and events will also be discussed.

 

COLLEGE ACCOUNTING, HONORS
Course # 707 GRADES 10-12 CR 1 (RS) S
College Accounting is designed to be a study of accounting principles. Accounting is the language of the business world. Students who are interested in a career in accounting, financial management, or who intend to major in business should consider this course. The course content is equivalent to a first semester college accounting course. Prerequisite: B or better in Accounting I or 3.2 GPA.

  

ECONOMICS/CAREER EXPLORATION
Course # 702 Grade 10 CR 1 S
This course is designed to help students understand their role in our economy. Students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of different economic systems, with emphasis on the American Free Enterprise System. Students will also explore different career options available to them and understand the importance of choosing a career and its impact on their life. Supply and demand, business ownership, money, banking, stocks and bonds, taxes, and the global economy are some of the topics that will be discussed. This course is required for graduation . Freshmen enrolled in Honors Global Studies will take this course as Freshmen. All other students will take Economics as Sophomores.

 

ECONOMICS/CAREER EXPLORATION, HONORS
Course # 703 Grade 9 CR 1 S
This is an accelerated course that studies the concepts of supply and demand, business ownership, banking, stocks, and taxes. The course is designed to give students a global view of their role in a global economy. Extensive reading, writing, discussion, and research will be required in this course. Prerequisite: Must also be enrolled in CRS 402: Global Studies, Honors.

  

PERSONAL MONEY MANAGEMENT
Course # 714 GRADE 10-12 CR 1/2 Q
This course is designed to introduce students to basic money management skills, including topics such as, but not limited to: financial planning, goal setting, budgeting, the role of banks and savings plans, checking accounts, personal financial statements, time value of money, investment programs, and the stock market. In addition, the students will be exposed to the outside factors that impact their income and financial situation. Financial decision making tools used by professionals will be reviewed providing insight into careers in business and finance. This course would be beneficial to all students for basic money management skills. Basic math skills are highly recommended.
