COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

 

WORD PROCESSING FOR BUSINESS AND PERSONAL USE
Course # 725, Grades 10-11, 1 Credit, Semester

Students in this course will develop proper technique while using the touch method of keyboarding.  Emphasis will be placed on developing speed and accuracy in order to become proficient workers.  Students will use Microsoft Office and will learn how to properly format various business documents.  These documents include memorandums, e-mails, personal and business letters, reports, tables, agendas of meetings, and itineraries.  Students will type from straight copy, script copy, and rough-draft copy.  Students will apply various computer applications while creating text slides, inserting art and drawing objects, creating diagrams, tables, graphs, charts, and a slide presentation.  Communication skills and internet activities will also be included in this course.  There are no prerequisites for this course.  Students in this course are encouraged to join Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA),

 

BUSINESS AND OFFICE ADMINISTRATION I

CRS 721 GRADE 10 – 11 CR1 S

Business and Office Administration I prepares students to perform routine administrative duties in an office environment. This course includes instruction in the composing, editing, and proofreading of business-related correspondence, filing systems and records management, proper telephone etiquette and e-mailing procedures, the processing of business documents, both written and oral communication skills, human relations skills, proper business ethics, mail handling, business math skills, and business equipment operation. Time management, organization, and prioritization skills are stressed. Career opportunities will be discussed while covering all phases of the employment process including looking and applying for a job, preparing a cover letter and professional resume, filling out a job application form, interviewing techniques, and composing a thank-you letter. Students in this course are encouraged to join Future Business leaders of America (FBLA). Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in Word Processing for Business and Personal Use or teacher recommendation.

 

BUSINESS AND OFFICE ADMINISTRATION II

CRS 723 GRADE 11 – 12 CR 2 Y

Business and Office Administration II is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in an office position and/or continued study at the post-secondary level. This course provides further training in Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Publisher. Students will also become proficient in using the numeric keypad. Students will continue to work on business communications, business calculations, formatting of business documents, and basic business skills. Additional topics to be covered include entrepreneurial concepts and opportunities, business law and ethics, business management, business principles, economics, personal financial concepts, and elements of marketing. Clinical placements working in businesses throughout the community start during the second quarter and continue throughout the year in a variety of business environments to give students hand-on experience in their chosen field of study. Students are encouraged to join Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in Business and Office Administration I or teacher recommendation.
