COURSE DESCRIPTIONS:

DRAFTING

CRS 779 Grades 9-12 CR 1/2
Students will develop an understanding of fundamental, technical and architectural drawing techniques and house layout plans through a series of progressively more difficult drawings. Students will use drafting tables similar to those used at engineering colleges and universities. Board drafting is recommended for any student pursuing a post secondary degree in any engineering field. This course will prepare students for more in depth programs such as Building Trades, Woodworking and CADD. This course is HIGHLY recommended before entering any of these programs.

ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGY

CRS 775 GRADES 9-12 CR 1/2 Q
Students will develop an understanding of electricity and electronics theory through a series of class and laboratory activities. Specific topics to be dealt with include: circuit analysis; testing and measuring; troubleshooting procedures; circuit assembly; and wiring techniques. Class activities involve using small portable electrical devices and automotive electrical systems. Students will be expected to complete electronic projects demonstrating industrial techniques and safety knowledge. Prerequisite: Passing grade, or concurrent registration in Technology Education.

POWER TECHNOLOGY

CRS 773 GRADES 9-12 CR 1/2 Q
Students will develop an understanding of the principles involved in the design, generation and operation of power systems as primary movers. An extensive safety unit that includes general safety, OSHA and fire safety will precede all lab activity. Instruction will be by problem solving, team building and lab activities. Labs will include: combustion engine systems, disassembly/reassembly of small engines, and troubleshooting. Other labs include hands on projects in the generation of mechanical energy from potential and kinetic energy. Solar power, electric power and other renewable systems will be discussed, as well as career options in those fields. Prerequisite: Passing grade, or concurrent registration in Technology Education.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION I

CRS 767 GRADES 9-12 CR 1/2 Q

Technology Education is an exploratory course in which students will investigate the nature of technology as it applies to their daily lives. Through a series of student directed activities, participants will use the problem-solving methodology to study problems in the areas of Communications Technology Power and Energy Technology, Construction Technology and Manufacturing Technology. Students will participate in a variety of individual and small group laboratory activities related to the study in each of the different areas of technology. An extensive safety unit that includes general safety, OSHA and fire safety will precede all lab activities. Successful completion of Technology Education is highly recommended before enrolling in the other courses in the Technology Education Department.

TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION II

CRS 767A GRADES 9-12 CR 1/2 Q

Technology Education II is a continuation of Technology Education I. Technology Education II will explore, in greater depth, technical and problem solving skills. Lab activities will be enhanced with computer aided software. Prerequisite: Successful completion of Technology Education I

WOODWORKING TECHNOLOGY

CRS 771 Grades 9-12 CR 1/2 Q
Students will develop an understanding of wood as a material by successfully planning and constructing projects from a given budget using both hand tools and power woodworking equipment. Wood Technology includes the following areas: Woods materials, basic wood joinery, hand tools and machines, wood project construction, wood turning, adhesives and gluing, and wood finishing. Safety to students is an integral part of this course. Much time will be devoted to your safety. Students will be required to pass general safety tests and the individual machine tests with 100 percent prior to being able to use any equipment.

WOODWORKING TECHNOLOGY II

CRS 781 Grades 10-12 C 1 S
Students will be provided opportunities to develop advanced woodworking skills by constructing furniture, cabinets and wood turning projects. Emphasis is placed on drawer / door construction, advanced turning techniques and individual skill development. Again as stressed in Woodworking Technology, safety to you and others is an integral part of this course. General and machine safety will be reviewed and passed with 100% accuracy prior your being able to use any equipment. Material fee required. Prerequisite: C or better in Woodworking Technology.

WOODWORKING TECHNOLOGY III

CRS 791 Grades 11-12 C 1 S

Students will be provided additional opportunities to increase their woodworking skills.  Emphasis will be placed more on cabinet type construction and individual skill development.  Again as with the other courses, general and machine safety will reviewed prior to any equipment use.  Material fee required.  Prerequisite:  B or better in Woodworking Technology II and recommendation of the instructor.  Limited enrollment.
